Nate - first of all, singing and writing music doesn't automatically make someone a "somebody." In fact, the entertainment business is one of the hardest! So explore your options. Also, just because a person isn't famous doesn't mean they're a nobody. Study hard! Build your character. I write music and have this band and created this website, but I also went to college and got a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree... none of these things make me "somebody." Another thing you can do is give your time to help others.
Finally, here's a good book: "500 Songwriting Ideas (For Brave and Passionate People)" by Lisa Aschmann.
