my porsche 917
will do about 280

but down mulholland drive
I just go slow

looking at the lights
in the city below

I think of my sister
dead 12 years now

I remember the day
when they told me

the rope around her neck
tied to a tree
on an island
in hawaii

I think of my friend
dave was his name

I always liked him
I liked having him around
but he blew his head off
with a gun
and more or less
left town

I keep on driving
and it's almost dawn
as I listen to the sounds
of a badalamenti song

I think of the day
when I was only five
the day my dad spanked me
not very hard

and how in a rage
all that night
how I wished he would die

the next morning
my mother told me that
my father was dead, a truck driver by trade

he had driven off the road
to keep two old people
in a volks

from being smashed
with a semi full load

and I think of the two
girls in the movie
the one alive
and the other one dead

all the same person
one alive
and one that's already dead

and I keep on driving
listening to the sounds
of that badalamenti song

The cowboy in the movie
who says you'll
see me one time
or you'll see me twice

and I keep on driveing
listening to the sounds
looking at the lights below
listening to that badalamenti song

and I think of the night
my friend joe and I
both half drunk

climbed over redford's fence
on that dirt road
just above sundance

I liked joe's sister
she was only sixteen
her mother had died
of cancer
about year before

but I felt her mother
watching over her
even if all kinds of bad things
seemed to follow this girl

joe and his sister
and their father
who was just plain damed mean

but their mom still looked
after them
from the far side of death
and I can almost feel her tears
as they fall down from heaven

and I think of the movie
where he say's
you'll see me one time
or you'll see me twice

and the night
me and joe
climed over redford's fence

and the night
me and joe
climed over redford's fence

and as I drive
down the road
looking at the city lights below
it's almost daybreak now

listening to the sounds of that
badalamenti song
